In July 1996, John went for a week to see the Tour de France pass through the Vercors, and Dave went with him. They stayed with Sylvie and Jean-Paul for a couple of days before cycling up into the Vercors to see the Tour.

In July 1997, Dave organised the two-week cycle-camping Tour des Ecrins, with John, Bret, Geoff, Sarah and Barry. Paul came for the first week before going to a wedding. Sylvie and Jean-Paul hired a van, carried their luggage and provided the meals.
