Tour de Drôme 11th to 18th June 2005

The accommodation: We will be staying at about 300 metres up in the gites near Autichamp, a hamlet seven kilometres from the town of Crest in the Drôme valley.

As the capacity of the gites at Autichamp is exceeded by the number of people who want to go, bookings will not be accepted at the moment from anyone who has not already expressed an interest.

Travelling there: After taking the Eurostar train from London at 12.39pm to Lille and changing onto the TGV train to reach Valence TGV station at 19.46pm, we will collect you for the 40 kilometre drive to Autichamp. (Train times to be confirmed.)

The hills and valleys of the Drôme Provençale south of the Drôme valley are at up to 1100 metres high including the 889 metre Montagne du Poët and 1128 metre Serre des Plaines above 416 metre Pas de Lausens and Col de la Chaudière at 1047 metres.

Between the hills of the Drôme Provençale and the River Rhône is the flat Montélimar basin with the Roubion and Jabron rivers, the medieval village of La Bégude-de-Mazenc and lavender fields. More on the Drôme Provençale.

Across the Drôme valley, to the north is the mountainous upland of the Vercors with its steep gorges and high plateaux over 980 metre Col de Bacchus and 1367 metre Col de Rousset. More on the Vercors.
